Ingredients
Plain Dough:
3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
1 cup warm whole milk (110°F/45°C)
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 large egg
Butterfly Pea & Matcha Swirl:
1 tsp Suncore Foods® Blue Butterfly Pea Powder
1 tsp Suncore Foods® Midori Jade Matcha Powder
1 tbsp warm water (for each powder)
Directions
1. Prepare the Dough — In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. Add the flour, salt, vegetable oil, and egg. Mix until a shaggy dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment for 7-8 minutes. Divide the dough into three equal portions.
2. Color the Dough — In separate bowls, mix Suncore Foods® Blue Butterfly Pea Powder and Suncore Foods® Midori Jade Matcha Powder with warm water to create a paste. Add one paste to one portion of the dough and knead until the color is evenly distributed. Repeat with the other paste and portion of dough. Leave the third portion plain.
3. First Rise — Place each dough portion in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
4. Shape the Bread — Punch down each dough portion and roll them out into rectangles of similar size. Stack the rectangles on top of each other (plain, blue, matcha) and roll them up tightly from the short end to form a loaf.
5. Second Rise — Place the rolled dough into a greased loaf pan. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
6. Bake — Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
